Codigestion of manure and organic waste at centralized biogas plants: process imbalances and limitations

چکیده

The present study focuses on process inhibitions in Danish centralized biogas plants. Collection of data from the plants and a number of interviews showed that inhibitions occur frequently. High concentrations of ammonia, long chain fatty acids or other inhibitory compounds, and foaming in prestorage tanks are well known causes of inhibition. These problems mainly occurs due to: 1) inadequate knowledge about the waste composition and 2) its degradation characteristics, 3) inadequate process surveillance especially with regard to volatile fatty acids and 4) insufficient pre-storage capacity causing inexpedient mixing of the different waste products in the pre-storage

Background on Anaerobic Digestion at the Farm

Introduction Over the past several years there has been significant interest in adopting on-farm manure anaerobic digesters in Ontario. The potential for sustainable energy production, while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, mitigating pathogens and odours, and increasing ionized nutrients in the digestate, has made anaerobic digestion an attractive option for manure management. The biog...

Thermal Pretreatment for Improvement of Biogas Production and Salinity Reduction by Zeolite

The anaerobic digestion of organic waste for biogas production can be affected by some variables such as temperature; concentration of the biogas feed solution, bacteria populations, and pressure. This study investigated the effects of thermal pretreatment at 50, 75, and 100 ºC on the biogas produced by simultaneous anaerobic digestion of cow manure, mushroom waste, and wheat straw at thermophi...

Anaerobic codigestion of waste activated sludge and OFMSW: the experiences of viareggio and treviso plants (Italy).

The paper presents the results of two full-scale applications of the anaerobic co-digestion process of waste activated sludge together with the organic fraction of municipal solid wastes. The experiences were carried out at Viareggio and Treviso wastewater treatment plants (Italy). In the first plant, 3 tons per day of source sorted OFMSW were co-digested with waste activated sludge, increasing...

International Nordic Bioenergy 2003 conference SURVEY OF FARM BIOGAS PLANTS WITH COMBINED HEAT AND POWER PRODUCTION IN AUSTRIA

The number of farm-based biogas plants in Austria increased rapidly in the recent past, a continuing interest in this technology is expected. A survey was carried out in 2002 to provide information for farmers and the decision makers involved. In most plants slurry and manure is co-digestion with energy crops and/or organic waste. Wet fermentation in mesophilic digesters with post-digesters com...

Optimizing the performance of a reactor by reducing the retention time and addition of glycerin for anaerobically digesting manure

Anaerobic digestion of manure is a widely accepted technology for energy production. However, only a minimal portion of the manure production in the EU is anaerobically digested and occurs predominantly in codigestion plants. There is substantial potential for biogas plants that primarily operate on manure (>90%); however, the methane yields of manure are less compared to coproducts, which is o...
